JAKARTA — Eye specialist Faraby Martha of Cipto Mangunkusumo National General Hospital (RSCM) has described the condition of Andrie Yunus’s eyes following an acid attack by a member of the Indonesian Army’s BAIS, the Strategic Intelligence Agency. He explained that Andrie’s eyesight still allows him to differentiate light but he cannot read letters, not even the largest ones. ‘Mr Andrie Yunus cannot read even the largest letters because his vision is very poor. He can only distinguish light, i.e. the presence or absence of light,’ Faraby testified during a session at Military Court II-08 Jakarta on Wednesday 20 May 2026. From the examination results, Faraby noted the acidity level of the wound remained low. ‘As of the last examination on 8 May, the progression is the same, stable, with the same vision. The degree of acidity is three. The pH is three, whereas it should be seven. So very low,’ he explained. Earlier, four personnel of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) were charged with splashing acid on Andrie Yunus in Central Jakarta. The accused were Sergeant First Class Edi Sudarko, Lieutenant Budhi Hariyanto Widhi, Captain Nandala Dwi Prasetya, and Lieutenant Sami Lakka. ‘The defendants judged that Mr Andrie Yunus had insulted the TNI and even degraded the TNI,’ said Military Prosecutor Lieutenant Colonel of the Legal Corps (Chk) TNI Muhammad Iswadi during the hearing at Military Court II-08 Jakarta, on Wednesday. The four defendants face multiple charges, namely Article 469(1) of the Indonesian Penal Code as the primary charge, Article 468(1) as a subsider, and Articles 467(1) and (2) as further subsidiaries, in conjunction with Article 20 letter c of Law Number 1 of 2023.
