REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDUNG - A doctor with initials AMW (26 years old) has passed away, suspectedly due to contracting measles while on internship duty at a hospital in Cianjur, West Java, on Thursday (26/3/2026). The Governor of West Java, Dedi Mulyadi, has called for the measles case to be handled comprehensively and promptly.

“I urge the health department to immediately identify where the problem lies and how the spread is occurring, so that comprehensive handling steps can be taken this week,” said West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi on Monday (30/3/2026).

KDM stated that he would soon contact the Regent of Cianjur, who is himself a doctor. Dedi also expressed condolences for the doctor who died suspectedly from the measles case.

“I will call the regent now; I extend my deep condolences. That is the highest dedication of a doctor, dying at the place of service while serving. I convey my profound grief, but the disease must be addressed. Especially since the regent is a doctor,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the West Java Provincial Health Office, Vini Adiani Dewi, stated that the handling of measles cases must be resolved by all parties. She noted that immunisation does not completely prevent measles but alleviates the symptoms.

“The public must be made aware that measles is a very vicious virus that can attack the brain, lungs, and others, including causing blindness in the eyes, even though medicine is available—if one wants to, there would be no measles,” she said.

She mentioned that a meeting has already been held with the heads of health departments throughout West Java to map measles cases and promptly carry out handling. She said that handling at the district level is being intensified in Tasikmalaya and Garut.

For other districts, it is at the sub-district level. She has data that there are 102,000 children who have not yet been immunised against measles, and currently, a catch-up immunisation programme is being aggressively pursued.

“102,000 children who have not been immunised,” she said.
