Doctor emphasises importance of nutrient balance at sahur
A sahur consisting of a combination of carbohydrates, protein, fibre, as well as vitamins and minerals helps slow hunger and keep energy levels more stable throughout the day, said Kurniawan in an official statement in Jakarta on Saturday. In a study conducted at Masjid Istiqlal in Jakarta on Tuesday (3/3), he stated that Ramadan is not merely about fasting from food and drink, but also about maintaining energy and immune resilience throughout the day. Indeed, the combination of carbohydrates, protein, fibre, milk, and ten essential vitamins and minerals forms a crucial foundation so the body stays strong, focused, and not easily fatigued during the fast. Preacher Habib Ja’far added that it is very important to maintain balance between worship and health while fasting, including ensuring sahur is sufficient and nutritionally complete. ‘Fasting is not only about withholding food and drink, but also about safeguarding the body’s trust. A nutritious sahur is a form of ikhtiar (effort) to make our worship more optimal,’ said Habib Ja’far. Marketing Director of Coffee & Health Food PT Mayora Indah Tbk., Haruman Rustandi, added that the company is educating the public that sahur is not merely about filling the stomach, but ensuring a complete nutrient intake to help the body stay strong to endure the fast all day. Through this initiative, he pledged to continue delivering educational programmes relevant to Indonesian families’ needs, particularly in building better habits for breakfast and sahur.
