DMI and Australian National Imams Council Push for Mosque-Based Cooperation

The Chairman of the Indonesian Mosque Council (DMI), Jusuf Kalla, is encouraging strengthened cooperation between mosque organisations in Indonesia and the Islamic community in Australia, covering areas such as training, imam exchanges, and mosque management. “Relations between communities and organisations are common, such as training, exchanging imams, and so on. That can be done,” Jusuf Kalla said in Jakarta on Wednesday (15/7/2026). The statement was made after receiving a courtesy visit from the President of the Australian National Imams Council, Sheikh Shadi Al Suleiman, at the DMI headquarters on Jalan Matraman, East Jakarta. Jusuf Kalla noted that the development of Islam in Australia continues to grow along with the increasing number of Muslims from various countries who have become part of Australian society. “The development of Islam in Australia is very significant, because of the diversity of Muslims from many countries who are immigrants in Australia,” he said. Meanwhile, the President of the Australian National Imams Council, Sheikh Shadi Al Suleiman, expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to visit and discuss matters with DMI officials. He assessed DMI’s role in managing the mosque network in Indonesia as extraordinary. “It is very important that we try to bring mosques together and unify their activities to achieve the same goals. Bringing together 800,000 mosques in Indonesia is something beautiful,” he said.
