Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Environmental Agency (DLH) has stated that the placement of a temporary waste point or emplacement at the Pesanggrahan River, Tanah Kusir Public Cemetery (TPU), South Jakarta, is intended to accelerate waste management. “The reason for this emplacement is indeed to speed up the handling of waste in bodies of water, rivers, or reservoirs around here,” said the Head of the Jakarta Environmental Agency, Asep Kuswanto, when met at TPU Tanah Kusir, South Jakarta, on Friday. According to him, placing the small emplacement along the riverbanks and reservoirs aims to bring the handling location closer to the source of the waste. In addition, the land is far from residential areas and has adequate access for waste transport vehicles. Furthermore, he said, its location on the edge of the river facilitates the mobility of mini-dump waste transport trucks to enter and exit the area. “There are about six mini-dumps that dispose here, and they are also mobile in nature,” Asep explained. Regarding concerns about rising water levels in the Pesanggrahan River during the rainy season, he assured that the waste collected at the emplacement is transported away within one day. “It is ensured that the waste at the location is cleared every day,” Asep revealed. The function of the emplacement is as a temporary placement site for waste originating from bodies of water, not from residents. The emplacement accommodates waste from bodies of water in Pesanggrahan, Kebayoran Baru, and Kebayoran Lama. The Jakarta Environmental Agency has deployed standby personnel, six waste trucks (mini-dumps), and one excavator during the waste relocation process, which is known to weigh approximately six tonnes at the 12 cubic metre site. Thus, the Jakarta DLH ensures there is no waste dumping activity into the Pesanggrahan River in the Tanah Kusir TPU area, South Jakarta, as seen in a viral video on social media Threads.
