The chairman of the Election Organiser Ethics Council (DKPP), Heddy Lugito, has called on media professionals to combat the spread of hoaxes in the digital sphere whilst safeguarding the enforcement of the code of ethics for election organisers. Heddy stressed that the media must consistently carry out verification so that the information published is verified as true. “Your task, fellow journalists, is to be able to clarify information that is untrue,” Heddy said in Bogor Regency on Thursday. “Sometimes the information is more of a hoax, but our society, our public, still sees something that appears on the internet as the truth,” he said. Heddy reminded journalists not to get swept up and report unverified information. “That is your task, fellow journalists, to be able to clarify information that is untrue. Do not instead get caught up in reporting that is not true,” Heddy said. According to him, journalistic truth is not an absolute truth, but rather a truth obtained through a verification process in order to provide benefits to society. “Because actually journalistic truth is not an absolute truth, not a philosophical truth, but a truth that we must clarify, we must verify for the sake of a better order of life,” he said.
