DKI Yesterday: Fire at Mediterania Apartment to May Day Groceries
Jakarta (ANTARA) - A series of events occurred in the DKI Jakarta area on Thursday (30/4), ranging from a fire that struck the Mediterania Apartment in West Jakarta to groceries to be distributed during the Labour Day or May Day 2026 commemoration in the Monas area.
- Fire at Mediterania Apartment, resident throws garment with writing
One resident of the Mediterania Apartment in Tanjung Duren, Grogol Petamburan, West Jakarta, who was trapped due to the fire, threw a piece of garment with writing on Thursday morning.
“C 33 GK IWAN & BAYI BUJAN,” read the writing on the long-sleeved yellow garment.
- Deputy Police Chief: Hundreds of thousands of groceries to be distributed during May Day at Monas
Deputy Police Chief of Metro Jaya, Brigadier General Pol Dekananto Eko Purwono, stated that hundreds of thousands of grocery packages will be distributed by a joint team to action participants at the International Labour Day or May Day commemoration centred in the Monas area, Central Jakarta, on Friday (1/5).
“There will be 300,000 to 400,000 grocery packages distributed, so strategic steps are needed to ensure this distribution runs smoothly to all participants,” said Eko during the Labour Day Security Roll Call at Monas, Jakarta, on Thursday.
- Labour Day, 12 long-distance trains stop at Jatinegara
As many as 12 long-distance trains departing from Gambir Station between 05:15 and 11:00 WIB will stop at Jatinegara Station during the International Labour Day (May Day) on 1 May 2026.
Manager of Public Relations for KAI Daop 1 Jakarta, Franoto Wibowo, said the policy was taken as an effort to maintain service smoothness amid potential traffic density towards Gambir Station, in line with the May Day Fiesta 2026 activities centred at the National Monument (Monas) area.

- Madrasahs in Jakarta proposed to be included in free school programme
Chairman of Commission E of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Muhammad Subki, proposed that private schools under the Ministry of Religious Affairs, namely madrasahs, be included in the free private school programme.
“I propose to the governor and his staff that free schools be followed by free private madrasahs,” said Subki during the plenary session of the DKI Jakarta DPRD in Jakarta on Thursday.
