DKI yesterday: Duren Sawit fire to Extended Concourse
A fire that swept through a residential area on Jalan Pendidikan Raya VI, Duren Sawit, East Jakarta, destroyed 40 buildings. ‘The affected structures number 40, comprising 39 semi-permanent houses (bedeng houses) and one fully permanent house belonging to a resident,’ said Dwi, head of RT 04/RW 14, when contacted by ANTARA in Jakarta on Tuesday.
The construction progress of the 4,439 square metre underground multifunctional space (extended concourse) at Bundaran HI reached 24 per cent in August 2026 and is targeted for completion in June 2027. The Extended Concourse project, undertaken by PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda) through its subsidiary PT Integrasi Transit Jakarta (ITJ), is expected to be finished in time for Jakarta’s 500th anniversary. ‘The target is for this to be a gift for Jakarta’s five centuries and it will be inaugurated during the Jakarta anniversary celebrations,’ said ITJ President Director Ferdiansyah Roestam in Jakarta on Tuesday.
West Jakarta Mayor Iin Mutmainah does not want her area to be associated with the ‘Gotham City’ stigma because it is considered unsafe, like the fictional crime-ridden city in DC Comics stories. ‘We do not want West Jakarta to be called Gotham City. The Class I State Detention Centre (Rutan) in Cipinang, East Jakarta, has opened a barbershop as a skills facility for inmates under the skills development programme run by the Activities Guidance Subsection (Bimgiat). ‘We want the skills acquired by inmates not to stop while they are inside the detention centre.
