DKI Transportation Agency Urged to Take Firm Action Against Illegal Parking Attendants in Monas Area

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has requested transportation agency officials to take firm action against illegal parking attendants (jukir liar) in the National Monument (Monas) area. “For the parking attendants and the incidents at Monas, I request that they continue and firm action be taken because we want Jakarta to provide order for that,” Pramono said at Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday. Previously, a video went viral on social media of residents complaining that their car tyres were deflated while parking in the Monas area. The deflation was carried out because the vehicles stopped on the roadside and main road, while the illegal parking attendants were reportedly not subject to enforcement. Pramono stated that the crackdown must not be half-hearted. To that end, Pramono said he had personally telephoned Central Jakarta Mayor Arifin to ensure that the enforcement operation is carried out consistently. “Including me, I also personally telephoned the Central Jakarta Mayor for the area behind Grand Indonesia that has been cleaned up, it must continue, not half-heartedly anymore,” Pramono explained. Previously, Head of the DKI Transportation Agency Syafrin Liputo said the deflation was carried out as an enforcement action against illegal parking at Monas. “It was done so that residents do not park haphazardly. We have conducted socialisation and urged residents not to park on the main road,” Syafrin stated. According to Syafrin, officers always direct vehicles to park at IRTI Monas or other locations with parking spaces such as Gambir or Lapangan Banteng.
