DKI Transportation Agency Prohibits Blok M Business Owners from Providing Special Parking Attendants for Customers
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Head of the Parking Unit of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency, Massdes Arouffy, emphasised that business operators in the Blok M Square area are not permitted to recruit special parking attendants to provide parking spaces for their customers. “They are not allowed to each provide their own parking attendants. If they feel there is a need or there are complaints, please report it to us,” said Massdes when contacted by Kompas.com on Wednesday (13/5/2026). Massdes explained that the Blok M Square area already has two official parking areas. According to him, if business operators receive complaints from customers about parking difficulties, the Parking Management Unit (UP) is ready to deploy officers to the location. “If it is indeed necessary because the area in front of the shop is very busy, with high traffic, and officers are needed to assist consumers, please report it to us; we will consider placing officers in front of the relevant shop,” said Massdes. He stated that the deployed official officers are called “lane attendants”. However, lane attendants from the Parking Management Technical Unit (UPT) are not allowed to request service fees from vehicle owners. “We already pay them salaries. So, by regulation, they are not allowed to ask, and the public should not give,” he said. Massdes assessed that the practice of using special parking attendants could potentially trigger the emergence of illegal parking attendants in the surrounding area. Previously, allegations of special parking attendants in the Blok M area went viral on social media Instagram. In the video, a man can be seen arguing with another man who is suspected to be from a restaurant in the Blok M area.
