DKI to Hold 499th Anniversary Peak Event at Bundaran HI This Weekend

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will hold the peak celebration of Jakarta’s 499th Anniversary in the Bundaran HI area, Central Jakarta, this weekend, on 27-28 June 2026. According to DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo, the series of anniversary celebrations began on 21 June and will continue until this weekend. “The series of Jakarta’s anniversary events started on the 21st, yesterday the 22nd, then on the 27th there will be an event at Bundaran HI and also on the 28th,” said Pramono at DKI Jakarta City Hall on Tuesday. Pramono explained that although a number of activities have been prepared to enliven Jakarta’s anniversary, this year’s celebration will not be held excessively. He believes the most important thing is to bring joy to Jakarta residents without ignoring the developing global situation. “But the essence of my message is to create public joy, but not excessively. Because for me, in geopolitical conditions like these, joy is important but should not be excessive,” he said. However, Pramono has not yet detailed what activities will be carried out in the area on Saturday. The DKI Provincial Government has already held a number of activities to welcome Jakarta’s 499th anniversary on Monday (22/6), including making tourist destinations and public transport free of charge, as well as inaugurating the connectivity of the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) area. This year’s 499th anniversary celebration also marks the lead-up to the 500th anniversary, or five centuries, of Jakarta City, which will be commemorated in 2027.
