DKI to Hold 499th Anniversary Peak Event at Bundaran HI This Weekend

The Jakarta Provincial Government will hold the peak celebrations for Jakarta’s 499th anniversary in the Bundaran HI area, Central Jakarta, this weekend, specifically on 27-28 June 2026.

According to the Governor of Jakarta, Pramono Anung Wibowo, the series of anniversary celebrations began on 21 June and will continue through the end of this week.

“The series of Jakarta’s anniversary events, which started on the 21st, followed by the 22nd, will include events at Bundaran HI on the 27th and also on the 28th,” Pramono stated at the Jakarta City Hall on Tuesday.

Pramono explained that although various activities have been prepared to enliven Jakarta’s anniversary, this year’s celebrations will not be held excessively.

He assessed that the most important aspect is to bring joy to the citizens of Jakarta without ignoring the evolving global situation.

“The core message is to create joy for the community, but not excessively. Because for me, in the current geopolitical conditions, joy is important but should not be excessive,” he said.

Nevertheless, Pramono has not yet detailed the specific activities that will take place in the area this coming Saturday.

The Jakarta Provincial Government has already organised several activities to welcome Jakarta’s 499th anniversary on Monday (22/6), including free access to tourist destinations and public transport, as well as the inauguration of connectivity for the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) area.

This year’s 499th anniversary also serves as a precursor to the upcoming 500th anniversary, or five centuries, of the City of Jakarta, which will be commemorated in 2027.
