DKI to Conduct Simultaneous Light Switch-Offs Three Times
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will conduct simultaneous light switch-offs three times: on 25 April 2026 for Earth Day, 13 June 2026 for World Environment Day, and 26 September 2026 for World Ozone Day.
“The light switch-off activity aims to encourage energy conservation, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and increase public awareness and participation in efforts to prevent and control environmental pollution,” said the Head of the DKI Jakarta Environmental Agency, Dudi Gardesi Sadikin, in a statement in Jakarta on Friday.
The activity, taking place from 8:30 to 9:30 PM WIB, is also intended as an energy-saving action and carbon emission reduction, as well as the implementation of Governor’s Instruction No. 14 of 2021 on the Implementation of Light Switch-Offs.
Dudi stated that the mechanism for implementing the light switch-off activity is carried out participatively by the managers and/or those responsible for buildings, facilities, and lighting, according to their respective authorities.
The locations for the light switch-offs, in accordance with Governor’s Instruction No. 14 of 2021 of the DKI Jakarta Province, include all buildings/offices of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, except hospitals, puskesmas, clinics, and others.
Central Jakarta: Jalan Sudirman (from Dukuh Atas to Sampoerna Strategic Building) and Jalan MH Thamrin, the area around Jalan Medan Merdeka (except Medan Merdeka Utara in front of the Presidential Palace), Jalan Gerbang Pemuda-Jalan Asia Afrika, the City Hall courtyard, and the Central Jakarta Mayor’s Office.
North Jakarta: Jalan Yos Sudarso, the North Jakarta Mayor’s Office Complex, and Perintis Kemerdekaan.
East Jakarta: Jalan Dr. Sumarno, Jalan Perintis Kemerdekaan, and the East Jakarta Mayor’s Office Complex.
West Jakarta: Jalan Daan Mogot and Jalan Kembangan Raya (in front of the West Jakarta Mayor’s Office), and the West Jakarta Mayor’s Office Complex.
South Jakarta: Jalan Prapanca Raya, Jalan Gerbang Pemuda-Jalan Asia Afrika, Jalan Sudirman (Sampoerna Strategic Building to the Youth Statue), and Jalan Rasuna Said.
In addition, several monuments that are symbols of Jakarta City will also be switched off, including the City Hall Building, the National Monument along with its fountain, the Arjuna Wiwaha Statue along with its fountain, the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout along with its fountain, the Youth Statue along with its fountain, the Heroes’ Statue, and the General Sudirman Statue.
Several private buildings, commercial buildings, shopping centres, restaurants, hotels, and apartments will also participate in the light switch-off implementation.
