The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is building two new flyovers, namely at Jalan Latumenten in West Jakarta and Bintaro Puspita, by 2030, which are expected to improve safety and traffic flow at railway crossings. Special Staff to the Jakarta Governor for Development and Urban Planning, Nirwono Joga, stated that these two flyovers were selected from seven locations already included in the Mid-Term Regional Development Plan (RPJMD). “However, based on budget cuts, until 2030, only two have been selected by the Jakarta Provincial Government to be built,” he said at the ANTARA Heritage Center (AHC) in Central Jakarta on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the other five locations, according to data from the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub), are in Tanjung Priok, Semanan, Lenteng Agung-Srengseng Sawah, Pejompongan, and Panjang. “That doesn’t mean Tanjung Priok, Semanan, or Lenteng Agung are not important,” said Nirwono. The construction of these flyovers is part of the local government’s efforts and commitment to managing crossings by relocating all level or illegal railway crossings, as they are considered one of the accident-prone locations. “That commitment must be made by the regional head. How to encourage each region, especially those with accident-prone crossings, to include them as priority programmes in their spatial planning,” said Nirwono. The Latumenten flyover on Jalan Latumenten will cross the railway tracks. Construction will be carried out on the east and west sides of the road, with the west side length of 440.86 meters and width (Right of Way/ROW) of 11 meters, and the east side length of 439.23 meters with ROW of 10 meters. Meanwhile, the Bintaro Puspita flyover is planned to have a length of 441 meters with ROW of 9 meters and will be built to address congestion at the railway crossing in the Bintaro area. The construction of both flyovers will be carried out using multi-year budgeting. Meanwhile, PT KAI Daop 1 Jakarta emphasised that illegal railway crossings pose a high risk of accidents. Referring to data, as many as 40 points of illegal level railway crossings have been closed since 2023 to early 2025 because they endanger the safety of pedestrians and train journeys. Of that number, 15 illegal crossing points were closed in 2023, 24 points in 2024, and one point in 2025.
