Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Head of the DKI Jakarta Public Works Department, Heru Suwondo, has asked all regional offices (sudin) across the areas to tighten supervision of excavation works that are rampant in the capital.

“Things like that are indeed what we are trying to do more aggressively, more firmly,” said Heru in Jakarta on Friday.

According to him, such supervision is important because it is often found that several excavations are carried out without clarity and even left in an unrestored condition.

For that reason, Heru asked field officers to firmly reprimand directly if they find suspicious excavation works.

In addition, officers are also asked to ensure the completeness of permits before the excavation work is carried out.

“If necessary, as soon as they see an excavation, immediately reprimand, ask for the assignment letter, ask for the permit,” said Heru.

He revealed that excavation works with unclear implementers are often carried out at night and left towards morning, while the road conditions are already damaged.

Not only that, he said, there are also works that have permits only to tidy up the road, but in the field, they carry out excavations that cause damage.

Heru said that even though the implementers of the excavation works are unknown, the DKI Public Works Department must still close and repair the damaged roads for the safety of all road users.
