DKI strives maximally to address waste issues in the capital
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Special Staff to the Governor and Deputy Governor of Jakarta for Public Communication, Chico Hakim, stated that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is making maximum efforts to resolve the waste issues in the capital.
Chico acknowledged that the accumulation of rubbish at several temporary disposal points (TPS) occurred due to quota restrictions on waste delivery to the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST) in Bekasi, following the landslide incident on 8 March 2026.
“Jakarta produces around 7,500 to 8,000 tonnes of waste every day. This accumulation was triggered by the landslide in Zone 4A of TPST Bantargebang on 8 March 2026, which hampered processing for about 10 days. The DKI Provincial Government continues to mobilise all resources to accelerate handling on the ground,” he said in Jakarta on Thursday.
DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has also instructed his apparatus to carry out concrete efforts.
These include temporarily redirecting waste delivery to other zones in Bantargebang and maximising alternative processing facilities such as the Rorotan Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF).
The DKI Provincial Government is also enhancing coordination among Regional Work Units (SKPD), with the DKI Environmental Agency (DLH) as the lead sector to clean priority affected points.
In addition, direct field monitoring is being conducted, including handling at TPS Rawadas, where the pile-up once reached heights of 3 to 4 metres and a length of about 100 metres.
“This disrupts road access and residents’ mobility to TPU Pondok Kopi. PPSU and the East Jakarta Environmental Sub-District Office have been deployed to the location to accelerate transportation,” Chico explained.
