DKI Satpol PP Proposes Increase in Personnel
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) has proposed an increase in the number of personnel, with younger ages, to reduce the workload on field members. Head of Satpol PP DKI Jakarta Satriadi Gunawan, in Jakarta on Saturday, stated that ideally, one sub-district requires 18 to 20 personnel so that the division of work can run more optimally. “However, the current situation is still far from that ideal standard,” he said. The limitation in the number of personnel is a challenge faced by Satpol PP DKI Jakarta. He detailed that currently, in one sub-district, there are only seven to 10 personnel. Yet, security and law enforcement operations run 24 hours a day. “With a three-shift system, the number of personnel per shift becomes very limited, thus impacting the high workload that each member must bear,” Satriadi explained. To date, he said, Satpol PP has 5,000 members, but the ideal number of personnel is 10,000 members. Therefore, he has submitted a request to increase the number of Satpol PP in the capital. Previously, in a meeting with Commission A of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Satriadi also revealed that the issue of personnel shortages caused 35 members to die within a year. According to him, the high number is due to the heavy workload in the field and the minimal support facilities and infrastructure for personnel. “I have been the Head of Satpol PP for almost a year. So, almost 35 of my members have died. Not because of the head, but because of the conditions, the workload and facilities that are extraordinary,” said Satriadi in Jakarta on Thursday (23/4). In addition, Satriadi also conveyed to the legislators regarding support facilities, such as rest areas, which are still minimal. Yet, Satpol PP members must guard for 24 hours at the sub-district office. Therefore, currently, many Satpol PP members are forced to rest in the prayer room or office corridors because adequate rest rooms are not available. This condition is also considered to impact the health and stamina of the officers.
