Jakarta (ANTARA) - The DKI Jakarta Road Infrastructure Agency has tidied up dangling utility cables and replaced a collapsed pole due to corrosion on Jalan Mangga Besar Raya in Tamansari, West Jakarta, on Tuesday.

The action, carried out jointly with the Telecommunications Network Providers Association (Apjatel) and utility network operators, followed the collapse of an optical cable pole on Jalan Mangga Besar Raya on Sunday afternoon (12/4), caused by corrosion and excessive cable load.

“We have followed up. We requested assistance from the DKI Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency for supporting the dangling cables. Shortly afterwards, we coordinated with Apjatel while contacting field operators, assisted by the Task Force of the West Jakarta Road Infrastructure Sub-District Office,” said the Head of the Data and Information Centre of the DKI Jakarta Road Infrastructure Agency, Siti Dinarwenny, when contacted in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Wenny stated that the collapsed pole was replaced with a new one in the road median.

“There is a pole on the side and in the middle (median) of the road. The replaced pole is in the road median. The pole height is about 9 metres, replaced to support utilities. Meanwhile, the cable tidying was done by tying them to prevent dangling,” she said.

“In the future, there will be no more overhead cables. We continue to tidy up and relocate cables underground. This programme is expected to become a long-term solution for infrastructure development, particularly in handling utility network cables,” she added.

Previously, the optical pole collapsed on Jalan Mangga Besar Raya, RT.015/RW.01, Tangki, Tamansari, West Jakarta, on Sunday afternoon.

“The suspected cause is that the optical cable pole was corroded due to the accumulated cable load,” said the Commander of the DKI Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Platoon for the West Jakarta Regional Coordinator, Maulana Syahroni, when contacted in Jakarta on Sunday.

Maulana said the pole collapsed, hitting a bundle of optical cables, impacting traffic in the area.

“The affected objects are optical cables and the road section,” he said.

Fortunately, there were no casualties from the incident. “(Casualties) None,” said Maulana.
