DKI Requests BPS RW Officers to Strengthen Waste Sorting Education
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has requested that BPS RW (Waste Management Sector Support Officers at the Neighbourhood Level) continue to strengthen education and assistance for residents so that the culture of sorting and reducing waste becomes a daily habit.
“This includes waste handlers for water bodies to carry out sorting and processing at UPSBA (Water Body Waste Handling Unit) facilities,” said the Head of the DKI Jakarta Environmental Agency, Asep Kuswanto, in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Waste collectors or cart operators are also reminded to ensure that sorted waste does not become mixed again.
Asep emphasised that during waste transportation, there should be no more mixing of waste up to the processing facilities. The same applies at TPS (Temporary Disposal Sites), where incoming waste must remain sorted and managed according to its category.
In addition, sub-agency staff and implementing units are asked to optimise various processing facilities in the community environment, from waste banks and composting to BSF maggot bioconversion.
“This step is important so that waste can be resolved from the source and not all of it ends up at the TPST Bantargebang,” said Asep.
He stressed that strengthening sorting and reducing waste at the community level must be the top priority, and all Environmental Agency staff are asked to ensure the management system runs consistently from upstream to downstream without interruption.
Asep also invited the public to use the Halal Bihalal of Eid al-Fitr 1447 H as a turning point to strengthen waste reduction from the source.
“Halal Bihalal should be understood as more than just a tradition of mutual forgiveness, but also as a space for reflection to improve more disciplined, consistent, and responsible work practices towards the environment,” he stated.
