DKI Reminds Daycare Operators to Continuously Enhance Caregivers' Capacity
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The DKI Jakarta Child Empowerment, Protection, and Population Control Agency (PPAPP) has reminded daycare operators to continuously nurture and enhance the capacity of caregivers so that services become even better. “Everyone needs mentoring; we all need to continuously provide capacity building so that the services become better. And our children who receive daily services, who are entrusted to daycares and cared for by caregivers in daycares, can be increasingly protected,” said the Head of the DKI Jakarta PPAPP, Dwi Oktavia, in a podcast monitored in Jakarta on Friday. Dwi hopes that all daycares in Jakarta are free from acts of violence against children. For that reason, she also reminded operators to accompany the children under their care, so they are protected from the risk of violent acts. “How can we present feelings of love, care, and nurturing to them. And how can we ensure that our collective efforts can also drive, among other things, the realisation of child-friendly cities or regencies that we also want to achieve in Jakarta,” she said. The existence of these facilities, continued Dwi, is important in Jakarta, which is continuously improving itself to become a global city with a female workforce participation rate in Jakarta reaching 50.24 percent. According to Dwi, some of these working women are mothers with toddlers who still need daily care. Therefore, they need daycares as places where their children can still receive care. The existence of daycares is also recognised by the Central Government through Law No. 4 of 2024 on maternal and child welfare, one of whose articles mentions that workplace facilities include, among others, lactation rooms and childcare places or daycares. In line with that policy, DKI Jakarta has also issued Governor’s Circular No. 2 of 2025 on the provision of child-friendly daycares in government offices and SOEs within the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government.
