Jakarta (ANTARA) - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has urged residents or organisers of sacrificial animal slaughter not to use single-use plastic, particularly black plastic, for wrapping sacrificial animals because it is not environmentally friendly. “Do not use single-use plastic bags, especially black plastic. Many are still using plastic cartons as containers for sacrificial meat, which ultimately leads to waste accumulation,” said the Chairman of the Waste Management Subgroup of the DKI Jakarta Environmental Agency (DLH), RM Aldin Praka, during an online event in Jakarta on Tuesday. Instead of plastic, recommended containers include bamboo baskets (woven), banana leaves, or reusable food containers that recipients of sacrificial animals can bring themselves. “So, it is better to use woven containers that have been socialised since last year, or better yet, use personal containers to reduce the impact of environmental pollution,” Aldin stated. Furthermore, he asked organising committees for sacrificial animal slaughter to socialise environmentally friendly containers to recipients of sacrificial meat. This appeal is the same as that voiced by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government two years ago, namely through the Eco Qurban principle in the implementation of Eid al-Adha sacrificial worship. Eco Qurban is a practice of organising sacrificial animal slaughter that is based on the protection and management of the living environment carried out on-site or at the slaughter location to minimise environmental pollution. One of the regulations is the use of environmentally friendly packaging for meat distribution, such as bamboo baskets, banana leaves, or personal reusable food containers rather than single-use plastic.
