DKI Provincial Government Urged to Build Communal Sanitation Facilities in Dense Areas

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Member of Commission B of the DKI Jakarta Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), Jupiter, has urged the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, particularly the Water Resources Agency and the Public Housing and Settlement Areas Agency, to allocate budget for the construction of communal sanitation facilities in densely populated areas. “The government must be present through programmes and budget allocations, not just rely on CSR (corporate social responsibility),” Jupiter said in a statement in Jakarta on Monday. He stated that sanitation, road safety, and access to clean water remain pressing needs for the community at present. According to Jupiter, these issues must be addressed immediately so that Jakarta’s development is not solely oriented towards large-scale infrastructure but also touches upon the basic needs of residents. Therefore, he requested the DKI Provincial Government to prioritise the equitable distribution of basic services in residential areas. “Development must be felt right down to the neighbourhood level,” Jupiter said. He further highlighted the sanitation problem in RW 03, Keagungan, Tamansari, West Jakarta. Based on residents’ aspirations, around 120 homes still lack septic tanks. As a result, some residents continue to discharge waste into the river. Jupiter noted that this condition is inconsistent with Jakarta’s efforts to become a global city. Additionally, he mentioned that sanitation issues also occur in the Palmerah, Sukabumi Selatan, and Srengseng areas. “There are still residents who do not have access to proper sanitation. This must be a concern,” Jupiter stressed.
