DKI Provincial Government to Redeem 2,026 Diplomas in 2026
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will redeem 2,026 diplomas in the first phase of 2026 for students from primary school, junior high school, senior high school, vocational high school, up to Community Learning Activity Centres (PKBM), with a total budget of nearly Rp4 billion.
This was stated by Deputy Governor (Wagub) of DKI Jakarta, Rano Karno, during the National Education Day (Hardiknas) commemoration ceremony in the courtyard of Jakarta City Hall on Monday.
Rano assessed that the diploma waiver programme is not merely the handover of administrative documents, but rather reopens access to opportunities for the community.
“For many people, a single diploma is not just a piece of paper. It is the key to employment, continuing education, uplifting the family, and facing the future with head held high,” he said.
The diploma waiver, in cooperation with Baznas/Bazis DKI Jakarta, is one of the priority programmes of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government.
The DKI Provincial Government also released 561 vocational high school alumni to work abroad, namely to Japan, Malaysia, and Germany. This programme is part of strengthening vocational education through the spirit of SMK Naik Kelas, Alumni Mendunia.
“This is the new face of vocational education in Jakarta. Vocational high school graduates are not only ready to enter the workforce but are also capable of competing at a global level,” said Rano.
The programme targets 103 private schools from primary school, junior high school, senior high school, vocational high school, up to special schools in five administrative city areas. This policy is a concrete effort by the government to break the chain of poverty due to economic limitations.
He emphasised that poverty is often inherited not because children are incapable, but because they are not given opportunities.
“The government’s task is to open those opportunities. To open the doors of schools and eliminate parents’ worries. Children must not stop learning just because of costs,” he said.
On the other hand, through the Disdik Peduli movement, school principals together with PGRI DKI Jakarta distributed educational aid for disaster-affected areas in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra worth Rp2.2 billion.
“This is the true face of education. Education must not stop because of disasters. Classrooms may be damaged, but hopes must not collapse. Books may be lost, but the spirit of learning must remain ignited,” said Rano.
Regarding Hardiknas, he said it is not merely an annual ceremonial agenda, but a momentum to strengthen the commitment to delivering inclusive, fair, and quality education for all Jakarta residents.
“National Education Day is not just a date we commemorate every year. It is a moral call that the nation’s future is built through lit classrooms, tireless teachers guiding, and children daring to dream,” he said.
According to Rano, education is a long journey to liberate humanity, as per the values inherited by Ki Hajar Dewantara.
Therefore, the DKI Provincial Government is committed to ensuring no child is left behind due to financial limitations, administrative issues, access to education, or disaster impacts.
“Education must be a bridge, not a wall. Education must be a door, not a fence,” said Rano.
He also hoped that Hardiknas would become a momentum to strengthen collaboration between government, teachers, parents, and the community in building an educational ecosystem that liberates.
