DKI Provincial Government to Make 20 Private Schools in West Jakarta Free, Here is the List

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com — A total of 20 private schools in West Jakarta have been designated as targets for the free private school programme for the 2026/2027 academic year. Through this programme, all education costs for students at the selected schools will be covered by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government. The programme is an implementation of Constitutional Court Decision No. 3/PUU-XXII/2024 on free education in public and private schools. Under this scheme, the private schools included in the programme will continue to operate as usual, but the students’ education costs will be borne by the government. “We had a meeting with the DPRD earlier to discuss the verification as well, but the process is still ongoing,” said Diding when contacted by telephone on Thursday (23/4/2026). Diding explained that the 20 schools to be made free consist of 11 schools in the West Jakarta 1 area and nine schools in the West Jakarta 2 area. He revealed that in the initial stage, more than 20 schools applied to join the programme. However, some private schools decided to withdraw before the final selection. The decision was mostly based on considerations that the government’s assistance value was deemed insufficient to cover the foundation’s operational costs. “There were also those who were interested but then withdrew. Because their calculations (of the funding) were too low,” said Diding. Regarding the programme’s implementation, Diding emphasised that the funding scheme will ensure students are not burdened with any costs. All student operational needs will be covered by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government. The free private school registration is planned to open in June 2026, coinciding with the New Student Admission System or New Student Registration (SPMB/PPDB) for the 2026/2027 academic year.
