DKI Provincial Government to Evaluate Waste Sorting Campaign Every Two Weeks
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will conduct evaluations of the household waste sorting campaign every two weeks. “I have instructed the Bureau of Regional Heads to evaluate the progress of this waste sorting campaign every two weeks,” said DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung at City Hall, Jakarta, on Tuesday. According to him, the evaluation is intended to ensure that the campaign is running well and is being carried out by all parties. He hopes that the campaign will run smoothly and sustainably, thereby addressing the waste problem in the capital. “This is not just a ceremonial campaign. We are serious because this is to handle the waste issue in Jakarta, as Bantargebang can no longer cope,” Pramono emphasised. Furthermore, he explained that waste sorting is divided into two categories: organic and inorganic. For organic waste processing, the DKI Provincial Government has trialled hydrothermal technology to process organic waste at Kramat Jati Market in East Jakarta. This innovation reduces processing time from the conventional method, which takes seven to ten days, to just two hours per cycle. Based on the April trial, the technology processed 1,708 kilograms of organic waste and produced 936 litres of liquid fertiliser, with time efficiency up to 80 times faster than conventional methods. In addition to liquid fertiliser, the process also yields solid residue that can be used as planting medium or organic fertiliser. Pramono stated that organic waste processing using this method will be implemented in all markets. In addition, he has requested that hotels, restaurants, and cafes in the capital participate in the waste sorting campaign independently. “For hotels, restaurants, and cafes, we mandate that all must have facilities for waste separation, because organic waste primarily comes from hotels, restaurants, and cafes,” Pramono explained.
