DKI Provincial Government Supports Sealing of Suspected Illegal Parking in Blok M

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government supports the efforts of the DPRD DKI Jakarta’s Special Committee on Parking Management, which sealed a suspected illegal parking area at Blok M Square, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, on Monday (11/5). “We fully support the efforts carried out by the DPRD DKI Jakarta Special Committee,” said Deputy Coordinator of the Governor’s Special Staff, Yustinus Prastowo, at City Hall, Jakarta, on Tuesday. It is known that the parking operator in the Blok M area, South Jakarta, is estimated to earn up to Rp100 million per day. This potential revenue is considered reasonable because the Blok M area is always crowded with visitors, both on weekdays and weekends, with various destinations such as culinary centres and entertainment hubs. However, the Chairman of the DPRD DKI Jakarta Special Committee on Parking, Ahmad Lukman Jupiter, stated that the levies received by the government from the parking operator are suspected to not match the actual turnover. He said that over the past three years, the parking operator is suspected of carrying out illegal collections from visitors because the financial reports submitted to the government do not match the on-the-ground conditions. In fact, Jupiter estimated that the state has suffered losses of up to Rp50 billion during the 15 years of parking management by the Best Parking operator. In response to this, Yustinus said that the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency together with the Regional Revenue Agency (Bapenda) are delving into the matter. “In principle, the Provincial Government certainly does not tolerate any illegal parking activities. So, we want to carry out enforcement, but on the other hand, we also want to provide solutions, how parking pockets can be provided properly, with proper management, system improvements, digitalisation, and so on,” Yustinus stated.
