The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, together with the Bank Indonesia Representative Office for DKI Jakarta Province, continues to strengthen the role of the younger generation in developing the economy or creative industry in the capital.

“With Jakarta’s population composition dominated by millennials and Gen Z (50.5 per cent), the younger generation has a strategic role as the driving force of a creativity- and innovation-based economy,” said the Head of the Bank Indonesia Representative Office for DKI Jakarta Province, Iwan Setiawan, in Jakarta on Thursday.

According to him, the creative economy, including the film industry, is one of the new sources of growth showing positive performance, with annual growth reaching 9.42 per cent in the first semester of 2025.

Furthermore, the film industry is capable of mobilising various supporting sectors, such as tourism, culinary, fashion, and transportation.

In addition, films also serve as an effective medium to strengthen the city’s image at the global level, in line with the vision of Jakarta as a Cinema City.

Therefore, one of the efforts to strengthen the role of the younger generation in the creative industry is through the Jakarta Youth Film Festival (JYFF) 2026, which is part of the Jakarta Kreatif Festival (JKF) 2026 and also in commemoration of National Film Day.

The event features screenings of short films as well as interactive talkshows with national filmmaking figures, namely Riri Riza and Prilly Latuconsina.

Iwan stated that this initiative also serves as a collaborative space that encourages the strengthening of an inclusive and competitive filmmaking ecosystem, while opening up educational and mentoring opportunities for students and university students to actively participate in the creative industry.

He hopes that the organisation of the Jakarta Youth Film Festival can become one of the flagship programmes in strengthening the film industry in Jakarta, capable of creating collaborative spaces, enhancing talent quality, and encouraging the birth of competitive works at the national and global levels.

“With the theme ‘Jakarta Our City’, the Jakarta Youth Film Festival 2026 is expected to become a catalyst for the birth of creative works rooted in local perspectives while strengthening Jakarta’s identity as a global city that is creative, inclusive, and competitive,” he said.

Iwan added that in the future, the synergy between Bank Indonesia, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, and all pentahelix elements in DKI Jakarta Province will continue to be strengthened to build a sustainable creative economy ecosystem.
