DKI Provincial Government Strengthens Child Protection from Radicalism Influences
Jakarta — The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has committed to continuously strengthening efforts to protect children and adolescents from various threats, including the influences of radicalism and terrorism now disseminated through social media and online forums.
This was conveyed by the Head of the Department of Empowerment, Child Protection, and Population Control (PPAPP) of DKI Jakarta, Dwi Oktavia, during a Radicalism and Terrorism Prevention activity in DKI Jakarta themed “Jakarta Students Anti-Viral (Anti Radical Virus): Smart Action, Peace in Heart” held in Jakarta on Wednesday.
“Social media, online forums, and digital social spaces are frequently exploited by irresponsible parties to spread ideologies of violence, intolerance, and hatred. Therefore, early prevention efforts are of paramount importance,” said Dwi.
She stated that children and adolescents represent the nation’s future generation, who should grow in safe environments free from violence.
Despite this, there have been several cases involving children or adolescents in various radicalism and terrorism cases.
According to Dwi, this has awakened everyone to the fact that disseminating information, fostering awareness, and developing the ability to think critically when filtering information are elements that are extremely important for all children to understand and implement.
“It is our collective responsibility to create environments that are safe, comfortable, and child-friendly. Children and adolescents (including students) must not only be protected but can also become agents of peace capable of spreading values of tolerance, mutual respect, and diversity,” explained Dwi.
She noted that one effort to strengthen child and adolescent protection from radicalism influences is through awareness-raising activities featuring experts on radicalism prevention.
“Activities such as what we are conducting today represent one form of preventive step to prevent unwanted incidents. Let us realise DKI Jakarta as an area worthy of children where every child grows happy and protected,” said Dwi.
