DKI Provincial Government Sends Free Mudik Participants to Thousand Islands

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has sent off 689 participants in the free sea mudik programme to the Thousand Islands from Muara Angke Port in North Jakarta. DKI Jakarta Provincial Secretary Uus Kuswanto stated that with the support of 11 ships, the free mudik programme serves as an effort by the Provincial Government to ensure safe, comfortable, and comprehensive Eid al-Fitr 2026 mudik services, reaching all regions including the island areas. “This free sea mudik activity is a continuation of the previous free mudik programme conducted via land transport. The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is committed to ensuring that all residents, including those in the island areas, have access to safe and comfortable transportation,” Uus explained in Jakarta on Wednesday. He added that although the distance to the Thousand Islands is relatively close to mainland Jakarta, many residents have not had the opportunity to return home for quite some time. Therefore, according to him, the free mudik programme has received an enthusiastic response from the public. “In fact, we received information earlier that there are residents who have not returned home for one to two years. They feel helped and express gratitude for this programme,” Uus said. “We ensure that all departing passengers have undergone a verification process. This is important to maintain order and safety during the journey,” Uus stated. Furthermore, he emphasised the importance of maritime safety to all ship crew. He urged each ship to ensure the readiness of safety equipment and to increase vigilance during the voyage. The mudik participants are also requested to maintain order, health, and safety during the journey so they can reunite with their families in their hometowns safely.
