DKI Provincial Government Removes Billboards and Videotrons for Film "I Must Die" at 3 Locations

The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has addressed promotional materials for the film “Aku Harus Mati” following public scrutiny and criticism. Special Staff to the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Yustinus Prastowo, stated that three locations have been targeted: Jalan Puri Kembangan in West Jakarta, Jalan Daan Mogot Km 11 or the Jembatan Gantung area in West Jakarta, and the Harmoni Intersection Police Post in Central Jakarta. “Two locations feature banners and one a videotron. The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will continue to monitor the situation on the ground and ensure that every public report is followed up quickly and accurately,” Yustinus said in a statement on Sunday (5/4/2026). Yustinus stressed that public spaces must remain safe and friendly for all groups, including children who are vulnerable to certain visual exposures. All communication materials displayed in public spaces must consider decency and potential psychological impacts on the public. “Therefore, all communication materials in public spaces need to consider aspects of propriety and psychological impact on the wider community,” he added. The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will also take firm steps if similar materials are found in public areas. Meanwhile, the Head of the DKI Jakarta Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP), Satriadi Gunawan, said that officers are continuing to monitor various similar advertising materials that could cause public unease. He also highlighted the importance of public involvement in this monitoring, particularly by reporting content deemed inappropriate. The removal of the promotional materials for the film “Aku Harus Mati” was carried out directly by the vendors after coordination with Satpol PP. “So it was done independently, not by us. We coordinated with the vendors, and alhamdulillah, they responded well. The vendors immediately removed them,” Satriadi said.
