DKI Provincial Government Pushes Education Transformation Through Various Programmes
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is committed to driving education transformation through various programmes, including the dispatch of 561 vocational school alumni to work in Japan, Germany, and Malaysia, as part of strengthening vocational education.
“This also forms part of efforts to open opportunities for Jakarta’s young generation to compete and contribute at a global level,” said Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Rano Karno while attending the peak of the National Education Day (Hardiknas) commemoration at the Ki Hajar Dewantara Auditorium, Jakarta, on Thursday.
The commitment to inclusive education, he said, is also realised through the certificate waiver programme to help students regain their educational administrative rights, enabling them to continue their studies, work, and access broader opportunities.
“The certificate waiver programme phase I in 2026 for 2,026 students,” Rano stated.
In addition, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is expanding access to education through an allocation of nearly Rp3.25 trillion for 707,477 recipients of the Jakarta Smart Card (KJP) Plus, as well as Rp399.4 billion for 15,825 university students receiving the Jakarta Outstanding Student Card (KJMU) in phase I of 2026.
Rano emphasised that the government ensures no barriers hinder the future of students, whether physical, financial, social, or administrative.
“Education is the right of every child of the nation, and the government is obliged to ensure that educational services can be accessed by all layers of society,” Rano remarked.
According to him, education must serve as a means to liberate humanity while addressing the needs of city development.
On that occasion, he reminded that future education challenges are becoming increasingly complex. Technological disruptions, changes in the job market, and global dynamics demand that the education system continuously adapts.
Therefore, education must equip students with character, skills, competitiveness, and the courage to create.
“It is in this context that education must be able to serve as a means to liberate humanity while addressing the direction of city development,” Rano explained.
The peak of the 2026 Hardiknas commemoration carries the spirit of “Move, Create, Show” as a space for appreciation and reflection on the achievements and transformation of education in Jakarta. The event features a variety of works, innovations, arts, culture, and learning practices that demonstrate the courage of students to move, create, and showcase their potential.
The peak of Hardiknas 2026 is also filled with various activities that affirm Jakarta’s education transformation, including the “Vocational School Level Up: Ready to Produce, Ready to Collaborate - Culinary Meets Industry” programme involving 14 vocational schools, three special schools, and one community learning centre to showcase ready-to-produce and marketable culinary products professionally through an expo and business matching scheme.
In addition, there is an exhibition of works from special schools resulting from collaboration between students of National Level Special School A in Jakarta and Another Day Korea through a multisensory concept themed “Galaxy”. These textured and scented paintings demonstrate that the creativity and imagination of students with disabilities are not limited by their conditions.
Literacy strengthening is also showcased through the Book Harvest, which presents 425 titles of works from 398 authors, consisting of 360 students and 38 teachers from 180 educational units and four publishers. These books will be absorbed by schools to enrich library collections while building a more holistic literacy ecosystem.
As part of the 2026 Hardiknas series, the DKI Jakarta Education Office is also holding the Jakarta Children’s Works Festival at Taman Bendera Pusaka, the Vibrant Hardiknas through urban farming, Student Art Space, School Visits, implementation of Free Private Schools, and the Hardiknas Ceremony at the DKI Jakarta City Hall, which is combined with Vocational School Level Up Alumni Going Global, Certificate Waiver, and Education Office Cares.
