DKI Provincial Government Offers Free Public Transport Today, Including LRT Jabodebek?
The Provincial Government (Pemprov) is providing free public transport services today, Friday (24/4/2026). This policy is implemented to mark National Transportation Day. “Happy National Transportation Day on 24 April. We are welcoming it by providing facilities for ease or free rides,” said Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung in a video post on his personal Instagram account, quoted Friday (24/4/2026). However, from an operational perspective, Transjakarta’s Head of Public Relations and CSR Department, Ayu Wardhani, explained that although the service is free, the system still records users’ trips with a nominal fare of Rp 1. “Through the Rp 1 fare, we want to provide convenience while encouraging more residents to switch to public transport as an efficient and sustainable mobility choice,” said Ayu, quoted from Kompas.com. So, does this policy also apply to LRT Jabodebek users? The Rp 1 payment policy only applies to those wishing to ride Transjakarta (BRT & Non BRT), MRT Jakarta, and LRT Jakarta. This policy does not apply to LRT Jabodebek service users. Pramono stated that the policy is not merely a ceremonial commemoration but part of a long-term effort to change public habits that still rely on private vehicles. The DKI Provincial Government hopes the public will take the opportunity to directly experience the available public transport services, so that in the future more residents switch to mass transport. “The Jakarta Government wants the public to become increasingly accustomed to using public transport facilities owned by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government,” said Pramono.
