JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will investigate allegations of illegal parking practices in the Blok M Square area, South Jakarta, which was previously sealed by the Special Parking Committee (Pansus) of the DKI Jakarta DPRD.

The Provincial Government will check aspects of permits to tax payments for parking to ensure the legality of parking management in the area.

Deputy Coordinator of the Governor’s Special Staff, Yustinus Prastowo, said that the Transportation Department (Dishub) and the Regional Revenue Agency (Bapenda) are currently conducting internal investigations regarding the allegations.

According to him, the Provincial Government supports the DPRD Pansus’s steps to go directly to the field with Dishub and Satpol PP to follow up on the issue.

“Now Dishub and Bapenda are conducting an investigation because this involves aspects of permits and parking tax collection,” said Yustinus.

However, on the other hand, the government also wants to ensure the availability of well-organised parking pockets.

“In principle, the Provincial Government certainly does not tolerate any illegal parking activities. So we want to carry out enforcement, but on the other hand, we also provide a way out on how parking pockets can be provided properly, with proper systems, digitalisation, and so on,” he said.

“This is what we are investigating, whether it is confirmed that there is no permit or is in process, that is what we are investigating together. Later we will provide an update and ensure everything is transparent,” he explained.

Regarding allegations of a revenue-sharing system with parking operators, Yustinus said that the parking management scheme in Jakarta is indeed diverse.

Therefore, the DKI Provincial Government will further investigate the management scheme, permits, and compliance with parking tax payments at the location.

Previously, the Chairman of the DPRD DKI Jakarta Special Parking Committee, Ahmad Lukman Jupiter, revealed that parking operators in the Blok M area are suspected of earning up to Rp 100 million per day.
