Jakarta — The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has confirmed that it will implement President Prabowo Subianto’s directive to conserve fuel consumption and consider implementing a work-from-home policy as a precautionary measure against the effects of the global crisis.

“Whatever directives come from the central government will also be implemented in DKI Jakarta,” said DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo when met in Central Jakarta on Tuesday.

He stated that the prolonged conflict between the United States and Israel with Iran could place pressure on energy supply in Indonesia, particularly gas and fuel. Moreover, fuel prices have already experienced significant increases.

Nevertheless, Pramono noted that fuel availability, particularly in Jakarta, remains relatively secure, and he is confident that panic buying will not occur.

Previously, President Prabowo Subianto encouraged fuel-saving measures by considering a work-from-home policy.

“Of course, we now need to take proactive steps, meaning we must reduce our fuel consumption. We cannot assume that we are safe regardless of what happens. We are grateful we are safe, but we must make efforts to reduce our fuel consumption,” Prabowo said.

The President outlined that global developments in Europe and the Middle East could potentially affect fuel prices. Rising energy costs are viewed as capable of impacting food prices, so the government must prepare proactive measures.

According to Prabowo, Indonesia has secured several basic food requirements. On the other hand, the government also has plans regarding the energy sector that will be accelerated.

Nevertheless, Prabowo emphasised that fuel consumption savings must continue as an effort to address global uncertainty.
