The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will evaluate the existence of level railway crossings without gates in its territory. This step is taken following the fatal accident incident between the KRL and the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek, which began from an event at an unguarded crossing in Bulak Kapal, Bekasi. “Jakarta does have several crossings that may not be fully covered, but at least there is someone guarding them. Well, this is something we must always evaluate,” said Rano after inaugurating the PAM Jaya Portable Water Treatment Plant in Cengkareng, West Jakarta, on Wednesday (29/4/2026). Rano acknowledged that not all railway crossings in Jakarta have ideal gates. “The problem that occurred in Bekasi, let the Bekasi Regency Government work together with PT KAI and the central government to find a solution. Hopefully, no more accidents like the one last night will happen,” Rano stated. On the same occasion, Assistant for Development and Environmental Living of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Secretary Afan Adriansyah Idris added that the government is not only focusing on evaluation and guarding but also preparing long-term solutions. One of the efforts is building a flyover in areas with dense level crossings. Afan explained that the project is under the authority of the DKI Jakarta Roads Department and is targeted for completion by the end of 2026. The flyover will separate motor vehicle lanes from railway tracks, thereby reducing the risk of accidents at level crossings.
