DKI Provincial Government Creates New Zebra Crossing in Tebet, "Pac-Man" Zebra Crossing Still Exists

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The DKI Jakarta Road Infrastructure Agency painted a section of Jalan Soepomo in Tebet, South Jakarta, to create a zebra crossing. A video of several officers in yellow shirts working on the zebra crossing was uploaded to the Instagram account @kabar_tebet. According to the information in that post, the work on the zebra crossing was carried out on Monday night (30/3/2026). Based on Kompas.com’s observation at the location on Tuesday afternoon (31/3/2026), the “Pac-Man” zebra crossing was still there. Its colour was still clearly visible after nearly a week since it was painted by artists and road damage activists. Kompas.com further explored Jalan Soepomo to identify the actual location of the zebra crossing construction based on the video uploaded to Instagram. Many zebra crossings along Jalan Dr. Soepomo were incomplete. On one side, a zebra crossing with fading colour was visible. Meanwhile, on the other side of the road, the zebra crossing appeared to be covered by new asphalt with a denser colour. One zebra crossing that appeared bright and neat was found at the pelican crossing near Universitas Sahid Jakarta. “Yes, this is the new one, if I’m not mistaken around 10 p.m. or 11 p.m. WIB, towards Saharjo,” said Amsari to Kompas.com at the location on Tuesday. On that road, the asphalt was denser. No road markings were yet visible. To cross that pelican crossing, a security guard was on standby, blowing his whistle when the green light for pedestrians turned on. Amsari also often helped the security guard to stop vehicles.
