DKI Provincial Government Continues to Promote Libraries as Spaces for Fostering Creativity
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The DKI Jakarta Library and Archives Service (Dispusip) is committed to continuously promoting libraries as spaces that shape critical thinking, foster creativity, and generate wisdom, one of which is an important element in realising an advanced Indonesia.
“We are committed to continuously driving this transformation through strengthening competencies, utilising digital technology, and collaborating with various parties,” said the Head of Dispusip DKI Jakarta, Nasruddin Djoko Surjono, during a Public Discussion in Jakarta on Tuesday.
The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, he continued, believes that strong libraries form the foundation of a knowledgeable society, and a knowledgeable society is the key to civilisation for an advanced Indonesia.
Therefore, the future development of libraries is not just about buildings or collections, but about building a smart, adaptive, and inclusive knowledge ecosystem.
“Today’s libraries must transform into knowledge centres that integrate information, technology, and people. Libraries store books and living spaces that connect data with meaning, transform information into knowledge, and cultivate wisdom in society,” Djoko explained.
In this regard, the role of librarians becomes increasingly strategic as curators of meaning amid a sea of information, collection managers, learning facilitators, literacy guides, and knowledge managers.
Librarians are also required to understand the books in the collection, comprehend technological data, and societal information behaviour. Therefore, the future of libraries is not determined solely by their collections; the competencies of the people within them are also very necessary.
Djoko stated that Indonesia has more than 219,000 libraries, which is a great strength of the Indonesian nation.
However, their quality is highly determined by the quality of the human resources managing them. This is where the important role of the Indonesian National Work Competency Standards (SKKNI) comes in, which serves as the foundation for professionalism and future direction.
“SKKNI ensures that library personnel have relevant, measurable, and adaptive capabilities to changes in the times,” Djoko concluded.
