Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Provincial Government is striving to prevent violence against women, one of which is through the Draft Regional Regulation (Raperda) on the Implementation of Women’s Protection, which is currently under discussion.

The Head of the Women’s Empowerment Division of the Department of Child Empowerment, Protection, and Population Control (PPAPP) of DKI Jakarta, Evi Lisa, stated that the Raperda consists of 13 chapters and 49 articles.

“Its aim is to prevent violence, exploitation, and discrimination. To guarantee a sense of safety for women, as well as to provide integrated services,” said Evi in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Regional Regulation Formation Agency (Bapemperda) of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Abdul Aziz, said that various inputs have been given on the substance of the raperda, including from non-governmental organisations, social organisations, to ministerial elements.

According to him, various inputs become important material for compiling the regulation so that it is more comprehensive, thus able to address the issue of violence against women.

“We hope that violence against women in the future can decrease,” he said.

Aziz opined that women’s protection is not only the responsibility of the government but also requires the involvement of the community and all stakeholders.

According to him, women must receive protection and adequate facilities to carry out their roles both in the work environment and the family.

He then highlighted that there are still female workers who have not received optimal rights at their workplace.

Therefore, Bapemperda will integrate the discussion with the raperda in the labour sector, so that protection for female workers is strengthened.

Previously, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo emphasised that the Raperda on the Implementation of Women’s Protection becomes the basis for strengthening integrated services, starting from complaints, assessments, accompaniment, legal services, psychological, health, social rehabilitation, safe houses, repatriation, to social reintegration.
