JAKARTA — Several contract workers (PJLP) employed by the Jakarta Provincial Government have complained about substantially larger tax deductions on their Eid holiday allowances (Tunjangan Hari Raya/THR) ahead of Idul Fitri 2026.

Multiple workers reported that the THR payments they received were significantly reduced due to considerable tax withholdings, with deductions reaching approximately Rp1-2 million.

One worker, Romudin, disclosed that his THR was reduced by Rp1.9 million from his total allowance. “I was shocked when the money came through yesterday,” Romudin told Kompas.com on Wednesday (11 March 2026). He noted that whilst tax deductions have been applied in previous years, they were substantially smaller in scale. “In the past there were deductions too, but normally just in the hundreds of thousands,” he added.

Romudin typically uses his THR to distribute gifts among family and relatives during Lebaran. However, the sizeable deduction has forced him to reconsider how he will spend the allowance. Despite this inconvenience, he indicated he would accept the deductions if they served a clear and beneficial purpose.

Similar complaints were raised by Nina (a pseudonym), whose THR was reduced by Rp1.5 million. She compared this year’s deduction unfavourably with the previous year’s cuts. “There shouldn’t be such large deductions this year — last year it was only around Rp500,000,” she stated.
