DKI optimises TPS 3R to reduce waste sent to Bantargebang

The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is optimising the use of waste processing sites based on the reduce, reuse, and recycle (TPS 3R) concept to reduce the amount of waste sent to the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Treatment Plant. “Optimising the use of TPS 3R, if it can be done, will significantly reduce the amount of waste that must be sent to Bantargebang while waiting for the construction of waste-to-energy power plants in Jakarta,” said DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung in Jakarta on Thursday. Jakarta’s waste balance is known to reach around 9,000 tonnes per day. Each TPS 3R is capable of reducing waste sent to the Bantargebang TPST by between 25 and 50 tonnes daily. One of the TPS 3R sites being optimised is located in the Menteng Atas area, Setiabudi, South Jakarta, which operates in cooperation with the private sector. Waste from the local community as well as the hotel, restaurant, and café (horeka) sector, totalling around 50 tonnes per day, is sorted and separated into alternative fuel material (RDF) and residue. Approximately 20 to 30 percent of the total waste received is converted into RDF. The RDF material is then mixed with organic compost and sent to a cement factory. “The RDF capacity can reach up to 150 tonnes. Although currently it is only 30 tonnes per shift, I have requested coordination to operate a minimum of two shifts. If it can run three shifts, that would be even better,” said Pramono. On the same occasion, Head of the DKI Jakarta Environmental Agency Dudi Gardesi Asikin stated that there are 31 TPS 3R locations in Jakarta, but not all have been optimally utilised. “We will replicate the model used in Menteng Atas, so we are trying to optimise designs that can reach a capacity of 100 tonnes through cooperation with third parties,” he said.
