The Regional Office of the Ministry of Human Rights for the Special Capital Region of Jakarta (Kanwil KemenHAM) has officially launched the Reconciliation and Peace Village (Kampung REDAM) programme in seven sub-districts across the Province of DKI Jakarta. This government initiative aims to cultivate human rights values in areas vulnerable to peace disruptions, including those frequently affected by brawls.

The designation of these seven Kampung REDAM sub-districts includes Cengkareng Barat, Jatinegara, Tengah, Bukit Duri, Johar Baru, Cempaka Baru, and Tanjung Priok.

Head of Kanwil KemenHAM DKI Jakarta, Mikael Azedo Harwito, stated that the sustainability of this programme heavily relies on active collaboration between the government and community leaders. He emphasised that peace is a collective responsibility and not merely the duty of specific agencies.

“Kampung REDAM is a shared recovery space. It is a place where interrupted dialogues are reconnected and residents’ trust is rebuilt,” said Mikael to reporters on Tuesday (21/4/2026).

He further added that the designation of these seven sub-districts is expected to become a national role model in strengthening tolerance and participatory respect for human rights.

Head of the Human Rights Services and Compliance Division, Rulinawaty, explained that Kampung REDAM is designed as a centre for reinforcing human rights values in conflict-prone areas. Kampung REDAM employs a community-based approach to restore social relations, encourage peaceful problem-solving, and strengthen early conflict prevention.
