DKI Legislator Proposes Traffic and Street Vendor Studies Before Implementing CFD on Rasuna Said

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Member of Commission A of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Kevin Wu, stated that the plan for a Car Free Day (CFD) on H.R. Rasuna Said must prepare thorough studies on traffic, control of street vendors (PKL), cleanliness, and other supporting aspects.

“I support the Rasuna Said CFD plan, but this support is not a blank cheque. The DKI Provincial Government must prepare studies,” said Kevin Wu in Jakarta on Friday.

According to him, the studies that need to be conducted by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government include, among others, thorough traffic-related aspects, public transport arrangements, official parking points, street vendor control, and cleanliness systems.

In addition, the DKI Provincial Government also needs to consider the provision of public toilet facilities, health posts, security, emergency access, as well as facilities that are friendly to the elderly, children, and people with disabilities.

“Commission A will push for coordination among regional apparatus to not just be a formality in meetings. It must be clear who does what, who is responsible, and how the evaluation will be,” he said.

Kevin also suggested that the DKI Provincial Government must create an integrated SOP for the Rasuna Said CFD. It should not wait for problems to arise before rushing to find solutions.

For this reason, before it is implemented routinely, said Kevin Wu, there must be simulations, mapping of congestion-prone points, crowd-prone points, potential illegal parking, evacuation routes, vendor arrangements, and real-time citizen complaint mechanisms.

He added that the plan to select the HR Rasuna Said corridor as the location for the proclamation of Jakarta’s 499th anniversary and the new CFD is fundamentally a good idea.

Because the Rasuna Said area indeed has strong symbolism as the face of modern Jakarta, with centres of diplomacy, business, transportation, offices, lifestyle spaces, and community activities.

“So if we talk about Jakarta heading towards a global city, this area is indeed one of its showpieces,” he added.
