DKI Legislator: Need for Firm Action Against Thuggery and Brawls
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is urged to take firm action against perpetrators of thuggery and brawls, as they are deemed disturbing and disruptive to the community’s economy. “Delinquency and bad behaviour will never disappear with soft advice or appeals. There must be consequences and firm enforcement against it,” said Justin Adrian Untayana, a member of the DKI Jakarta Provincial DPRD, in Jakarta on Sunday. According to him, DKI Jakarta must immediately anticipate and address the thuggery and brawls that continue to recur in the capital. Justin encouraged the DKI Provincial Government to boldly take firm steps to eradicate violence in Jakarta, including brawls and thuggery. He also criticised the slow response of the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) to issues such as brawls and thuggery. “On the other hand, our Satpol PP also does not act actively. It seems as if Satpol PP only intervenes after an incident has been viralised by the public. This shows a misguided passivity,” he stated. Justin reminded that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has tens of thousands of Civil State Apparatus (ASN) personnel and hundreds of other Individual Service Providers (PJLP). In addition, regarding security, he also highlighted the grant to the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) amounting to Rp315 billion in the 2026 Fiscal Year Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBD). “Our grant for Forkopimda as a cross-agency coordination forum is also not small, namely Rp315 billion,” he said. He asked the DKI Provincial Government to be firm and serious in dealing with thuggery. This is also related to the taxes of Jakarta residents that need to be accounted for. “Do not let the spending of billions of rupiah become futile because the DKI Provincial Government cannot address thuggery that continues to harm the community,” he said.
