DKI Jakarta will not relocate General Sudirman statue during Dukuh Atas pedestrian deck construction
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that the administration will not relocate the General Sudirman statue during the construction of the Dukuh Atas pedestrian facility, also known as the Donut Ring Bridge, in the Setiabudi area of South Jakarta. “After days of contemplation, the General Sudirman statue will remain in this place; we will not move it, so as not to create a polemic,” he said in Jakarta on Sunday. Pramono said he had reviewed the detailed plans for the pedestrian facility and decided against moving the statue. “I have seen the detailed drawings, so it does not need to be moved and will even become a place that will be remembered by everyone,” he said. On the same occasion, PT MRT Jakarta President Director Tuhiyat announced that a viewing platform will be built within the pedestrian deck. Pedestrians crossing the bridge will be able to view the General Sudirman statue from the platform. As previously reported, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government officially laid the first stone for the Dukuh Atas pedestrian deck on Sunday, targeting the infrastructure’s completion by 2028. The groundbreaking was part of the agenda for the 499th anniversary of Jakarta. The event was held simultaneously with the inauguration of the revitalised Jalan H.R. Rasuna Said area in South Jakarta. This dedicated pedestrian facility is designed to connect various public transport modes, including the Jakarta MRT, Jakarta LRT, Jabodetabek LRT, commuter rail, Transjakarta, and the airport train. The facility is designed in a circular shape with a diameter of approximately 118 metres and a width of around 12 metres.
