Jakarta (ANTARA) - Commission D of the DKI Jakarta DPRD is urging the Provincial Government to innovate in accelerating waste management, including through creative financing that does not burden the regional budget (APBD).

Commission D Chair Yuke Yurike assessed that the DKI Provincial Government also needs to strengthen collaboration with the private sector or investors. “In every working meeting, we always encourage the DKI Provincial Government, especially the Environmental Agency, to strengthen cooperation with third parties,” she said in a statement in Jakarta on Thursday.

According to Yuke, the potential for green investment in Jakarta is very large. She also noted that there are currently many third parties and investors experienced in waste management. However, the government still needs to strengthen business matching so that more investors are involved in waste management projects. “Business-to-business and government-to-business must be further promoted. Hopefully, there will be investors willing to cooperate with the DKI Provincial Government,” she said.

Yuke reminded that waste management needs to be accelerated urgently, especially since the open dumping system at the Bantargebang TPST will be discontinued. Therefore, the development of a more modern waste management system needs to be expedited. “The implementation of a sanitary landfill and other management systems requires substantial costs and must be carried out immediately,” she said.

Previously, Governor Pramono Anung stated that the DKI Provincial Government has initiated various discussions regarding green investment as part of accelerating the development of waste-to-energy processing. The DKI Provincial Government is also facilitating 13 potential investment cooperation opportunities with prospective investors, including providing assistance to 251 companies in resolving various investment obstacles.

On the other hand, the DKI Provincial Government has also begun to gradually stop open dumping practices at the Bantargebang TPST in Bekasi City. The initial phase is being carried out by closing two active waste disposal zones as part of the implementation of a controlled landfill system. The implementation of the controlled landfill began on Friday (17/7), with the Integrated Waste Management Unit (UPST) team first installing cover media on the top area of Zone 2 of the Bantargebang TPST.
