DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency: Towed Vehicles for Illegal Parking No Longer Fined
The DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub) has confirmed that vehicles towed or transported during illegal parking enforcement operations are no longer subject to fines. Vehicle owners simply need to sign a statement pledging not to repeat the violation before reclaiming their vehicles.
Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency, Budi Awaludin, stated that the fine abolition policy has been in effect since 2024. Therefore, owners whose vehicles are caught parking illegally do not need to pay any fees when collecting their vehicles at the municipal transportation office.
“The vehicle can be taken immediately just by making a statement letter. This service is not subject to any fees or fines at all, whether for vehicles that are towed or loaded onto our trucks,” Budi said at DKI Jakarta City Hall on Sunday (21/6).
With this policy, the administrative sanctions of a Rp500,000 fine for cars and Rp250,000 for motorcycles previously applied in illegal parking enforcement have been officially abolished. “The fines have been removed since 2024. Now it’s just making a statement letter not to repeat the offence,” he said.
Budi also corrected circulating information regarding an online motorcycle taxi (ojol) driver in the Jatinegara area who was reportedly asked to pay Rp250,000 to retrieve his motorcycle after an enforcement operation. According to him, the report was false. The driver in question retrieved his vehicle on the same day without any charge. “The circulating issue is that Mr Sulis had his motorcycle impounded and was asked for Rp250,000. That is a hoax,” Budi stressed. He explained that the driver was only asked to sign a statement letter and was immediately able to take his vehicle home.
In addition to evaluating illegal parking enforcement, the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency will also collaborate with ojol communities, application operators, and building managers to find long-term solutions. One option being prepared is the provision of special parking areas for ojol drivers at shopping centres and office buildings. “Following our discussions with ojol colleagues, we will bring together the community, operators, and building managers so that special parking spaces for ojol can be provided,” Budi said. This measure is expected to reduce illegal parking violations, which have often occurred due to limited parking space for ojol drivers in Jakarta’s commercial areas.
