DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency apologises for traffic congestion in Rasuna Said area
DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency has apologised to the public for traffic disruptions on HR Rasuna Said Road in South Jakarta on Sunday evening (31 May). A social media video of heavy traffic in the area during a music event attended by approximately 10,000 people had previously gone viral. Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency, Budi Awaludin, stated on Monday: “We apologise to the public affected by the traffic congestion and disruptions in the HR Rasuna Said area.” Upon receiving public reports, he said, transportation officials and the Public Order Police Unit (Satpol PP) immediately deployed to the scene to manage traffic and vehicle regulation to alleviate congestion. Budi noted that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government supports community and economic activities across the city. However, any event likely to increase traffic must be coordinated with relevant agencies to maintain public mobility. The agency did not receive coordination requests from the event organisers regarding traffic and parking management to handle the high number of attendees. According to Budi, coordination with the Transportation Agency is crucial before events take place. With proper coordination, he added, the agency can arrange parking areas, deploy personnel, implement traffic management and engineering measures, anticipate potential vehicle congestion near the venue, and encourage public transport use. Such measures are vital to reduce private vehicle use and minimise traffic impacts around the event site. “Moving forward, we aim to ensure officers respond promptly to road issues and public reports,” Budi said. He urged all event organisers to coordinate with the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency from the outset to optimise preventive measures and maintain public mobility.
