DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency Advises Public to Avoid Certain Roads Amid Planned Demonstrations

The DKI Jakarta Provincial Transportation Agency (Dishub) is urging the public to anticipate travel disruptions and avoid a number of roads likely to experience traffic congestion due to planned demonstrations at several points in Jakarta on Friday (12/6).

“We urge the public to plan their journeys well and use alternative routes if they will be passing through the activity locations. Dishub officers have been placed on standby to assist with traffic management so that public mobility remains safe, smooth, and comfortable,” said Head of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Transportation Agency, Budi Awaluddin, in Jakarta on Friday.

The roads potentially affected include:

• Jalan Jenderal Sudirman (in front of the BRI Head Office);

• Jalan Kebon Sirih (in front of the BGN Office);

• Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan (the City Hall, Monas, and Gambir area);

• The UNJ Campus area, Rawamangun, East Jakarta.

Furthermore, Budi added, his agency is also continuously coordinating with the police and the DKI Jakarta Provincial Satpol PP to monitor and secure activities on the ground.

Meanwhile, today a number of student groups are holding demonstrations in the Central Jakarta area. The Metro Jaya Regional Police have placed 4,151 joint personnel on standby to escort and secure the action. The joint personnel consist of 3,651 members from the Indonesian National Police, supported by 500 personnel from the Indonesian National Armed Forces. In addition to deploying personnel, the police have also mapped out a number of anticipatory measures for the dynamic situation on the ground. Regarding traffic flow around the Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan and Monas area, the police have prepared situational traffic diversions.
