DKI Jakarta to Host International Events for 500th Anniversary in 2027

DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has begun preparing an international-level series of events to commemorate the city’s 500th anniversary in 2027. Various activities have been scheduled in a year-long calendar as part of the five-century celebration. Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta, Rano Karno, said the provincial government will form a special task force to oversee all planned activities. According to Rano, early scheduling is necessary as several events will involve participants and guests from multiple countries. He stressed that the 500th anniversary celebration is not only for Indonesians but designed as an international event. ‘Why are we creating this calendar? Because we’re not just involving local Indonesians but inviting international participants,’ he said. Rano said the festival aims to attract more participants from various continents. ‘Not too many, perhaps two from Africa, two from Europe, two from Asia. We can invite Thailand, Japan, South Korea. But I’m confident there will be competition,’ Rano added. Besides cultural festivals, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is also preparing other international events as part of the 500th-anniversary celebrations. However, Rano declined to disclose details of the planned activities. Rano revealed he recently returned from Milan, Italy, to prepare for an international event scheduled for next year. However, the official announcement will be made in Tokyo, Japan. ‘That’s why I apologised for returning from Milan yesterday to prepare for next year’s event, even though the announcement will be in Tokyo, meaning we must start preparations now,’ he said. ‘This is a cultural event, which is why our Governor was selected as a representative of C40 Cities to become vice-chair – part of our strategy to become a global city,’ he added.
