Jakarta (ANTARA) - The DKI Jakarta provincial government will continue conducting weather modification operations (OMC) whenever rainfall exceeds 200 millimetres (mm).

"What is clear is that the DKI Jakarta government is anticipating all possibilities. We receive data from BMKG every day. We no longer need to state that it needs to be done," said DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo in South Jakarta on Friday.

Pramono said weather conditions in the capital and surrounding areas are being continuously monitored. If rainfall does not exceed 200mm, the OMC will not be carried out.

The DKI Jakarta provincial government is also contributing to OMC operations in buffer zones such as Depok, Tangerang and surrounding areas.

Beyond this, the Jakarta government will also collaborate with the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) to conduct weather modification in other regions.

For the areas surrounding Jakarta, Pramono and his team will handle the operations directly.

Meanwhile, the Head of the DKI Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), Isnawa Adji, reported that preliminary evaluations indicate the OMC has had a positive impact on rainfall control in Jakarta.

"Based on the evaluation of rainfall data, the Weather Modification Operations conducted since 30 January to date have shown indications of reducing rainfall by 23.85 per cent," said Isnawa.

Isnawa said the effort is part of the DKI Jakarta provincial government's anticipatory measures to reduce the risk of flooding and waterlogging.
