DKI Jakarta targets Rorotan RDF facility to process 1,000 tonnes of waste daily
Jakarta – The Jakarta provincial government is targeting the waste processing facility at Rorotan, North Jakarta, to be capable of processing up to 1,000 tonnes of waste per day.
“We are currently conducting commissioning at Rorotan. Hopefully it will be completed soon, so Rorotan can operate normally,” said Pramono at Jakarta City Hall on Monday.
This step is expected to reduce the burden of waste currently being sent to the Integrated Waste Processing Centre (TPST) Bantargebang in Bekasi, West Java.
Pramono acknowledged that the waste processing capacity at Rorotan would not immediately reach the original target that had been designed previously. However, if able to process approximately 1,000 tonnes per day, this is considered to be very helpful in reducing Jakarta’s waste burden.
It is known that currently, the volume of waste from Jakarta sent to Bantargebang reaches approximately 7,400 to 8,000 tonnes per day. This situation is increasingly straining the capacity of the final disposal site.
Because of this, the DKI Jakarta provincial government continues to seek ways to reduce its dependence on Bantargebang, including through the development of waste processing facilities within the city and stricter waste separation from the source.
“So 1,000 tonnes per day is already very good for operations at Rorotan at this time, and it will reduce waste significantly, perhaps around 1,000–1,500 tonnes,” explained Pramono.
